About Us
A warm and friendly welcome awaits you at the Oar & Paddle; our very special piece of paradise on the left bank of Lake Karapiro (the sunny, sheltered side). The Oar & Paddle has outlooks second to none of the lake, surrounding farms with a backdrop of Maungatautari Mountain, and is so close to the picturesque township of Cambridge.
We have a working beef farm, so bring your pony! Feel free to wander down the farm, view the bush or head down to the jetty where the start line for the 2010 rowing world championships is to be held (a 2 minute walk). The entire course of this competition can be viewed right from your room.
Relaxing - Spacious - Spectacular views - Affordable luxury.
Your accommodation is self-contained; you have your own entrance so you can come and go as you please with the peace of mind that we are here should you need any assistance, local knowledge or just to have a chat.
The Oar & Paddle has two suites (click here to view).
Both have spectacular views of the lake below, are very generous in size, brand new and very well appointed. Both have their own ensuites and patios. They are separated by your own kitchen / laundry and adjacent to your own living / dining area. Use the air-conditioning or open all the doors and let nature surround you.
You may wake in your warm, cozy bed to the view of a solo sculler emerging from the tranquil mist of a winter's morning. The faint whisper of the rowers oars the only sounds to be heard.
Your hosts, David and Sue, have lived in the area for many years and have an extensive knowledge of the local community. David has been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, and Sue has farmed for nearly as many. We are well travelled and love the experience of meeting new people.
We believe you will enjoy both your stay at the Oar & Paddle and our hospitality.
